For the first time in the history of FIFA games, EA Sports giveS the player the story-led mode called the Journey, which basically is a story of young and talented Alex Hunter, a teenager from the lineage of great footballers.
However, the player won’t be just sitting back and watching the story. The path of Alex’s success will be decided by the player. The team in which Alex will play will depend on his performance during matches, which can be influenced by all previous decisions, e.g. if the player decides to party with Vardy, than the performance may not be as great as in any different situation. There will also the possibility of choosing the position. Unfortunately, in order to suit the story dramatics, only attacking positions are available.
The gameplay won’t change much in FIFA 17 – most of the time still is spent on training and impressing the manager to get off the bench. The training will infl8uence Alex’s attributed and growth, allowing the player to reach his own FIFA strength. Additional objectives are given if Alex makes it off the bench during the big matches, such as making a certain number of passes, scoring the winning goal or having top notch tackling skills. The player may also use the shield option to protect the ball from enemy team, giving the player more control over it, and he doesn’t need to stop shielding it in order to perform a dribble.
Aside from The Journey, EA Sports decided to use Frostbite Engine to run the game. It gives the player more realistic and lively gaming experience, which includes the more human reaction on receiving the ball or being more physical in general. Also, the play itself is more emotive and realistic thank to the more impressive lightning, especially during night, causing the feeling of playing in the real football match.
